York Soccer Club is hoping to run our EDP program in 2020. We are, however, monitoring the development of the COVID-19 virus and our number one priority is the safety of our players, their families and our community. As the public health situation evolves, we may need to adjust our plans and we know families may need to as well. We will do our best to keep the webpage up to date and folks who have registered informed of any changes. We will also offer refunds as appropriate. We appreciate your patience and your interests in our programs.

York Soccer Club Early Development Program

Early Development Program (EDP)

EDP is for all children between the ages of 5 and 8 living in York Maine.  Most participants are in grades K-2. Third graders also may participate in EDP, however they may prefer to participate in our Travel Program.  (Note: the Travel Program is open to children born on or before December 31, 2012.  It is somewhat  more competitive than EDP, but at the younger ages is still primarily focused on fun and skill development and can still be a good option for first time players.)

The program takes place weekly behind Village Elementary School in York on Saturday mornings starting on Sept 12, from 9:15 - 10:15 am, until October 24 (excluding Columbus Day weekend).

  • Players will be grouped into small teams with whom they will do some fun activities and against whom they will play some friendly scrimmages.
  • Teams are coached by parent volunteers who may be new to soccer or experienced players themselves.  They are assisted by players from the York High School Boys and Girls soccer teams, and the weekly curriculum has been developed by experienced coaches from Seacoast United.

What kids need
Players should:

  • Be dressed for the weather (EDP is outdoors) with breakfast in their bellies and a full water bottle in hand.
  • Wear soccer shin-guards.
  • Wear sneakers (soccer cleats are helpful, but not required).

What kids will get:

  • A colored jersey (that they can keep!) on the first day that should be worn on subsequent Saturdays.
  • A soccer ball on the last day of the program to take home.
