Call for volunteers!

By Jeff, 08/26/18, 5:30PM EDT

YSC serves over 300 kids ages 5-13 and 100% run by volunteers, we need your help!

Jeff Frame (York Soccer Club) sent you a message.

York Soccer Parents and Guardians,

And just like that, it’s soccer season!  It’s taken a lot of work to get us to this point and I want to thank the volunteer YSC Board Members, Coaches and Parent Volunteers that have stepped up this season.  Quite literally, this club and soccer in York would not exist for the 300+ kids ages 5 -13 without the help from the York community.

When I think about the contributions of former (recent) board members like Bob Schilling, Dean DeLuca, Sarah Patch, Alli Geller, LJ Combe and the countless others that came before them, I am truly impressed to what has been built.  Town travel soccer is a way that we can have our kids build pride in our community and It is up to the parents of this town to continue “pick up the torch” and carry this work forward.

So, here’s the ask.  Having two kids who have participated in the program (oldest is a HS Senior, youngest U13), I have been a YSC Member for 8 years.  I have been a parent on the sideline, Harvest Cup volunteer, coach, board member and this year I stepped up to fill the role of President.  What is clear to me is that we cannot continue to put the bulk of the burden on a small group of individuals who step forward to run this club.

Last year I saw parents step up across all age groups to help at the Harvest Cup (and greatly appreciated that), but I also saw board members who volunteer year-round for the club, put in 10+ hour days for the entire holiday weekend (many who also coached teams).  This is not anything new and just one of many examples how the YSC board has always worked hard to make the club what it is today.

This year we are changing things to lesson the impact of Harvest Cup on parents (e.g. High School volunteers), but we need your help.  We will be asking for volunteers to help on committees …  planning, Harvest Cup (25th Anniversary!!), year-end wrap up and new board members for the 2019 season.  Being a professional soccer player is not a requirement … we need people who can organize, plan, bring positive energy and just plain help!  We’ve accomplished a lot over the last two years (see a summary here) and with your help, we will continue to make this a great soccer program.

This is a 100% volunteer led organization.  We do not have paid staff and it takes a tremendous amount of effort to run this organization.  When you get that email please step forward and encourage others to do so as well.

Thank you and I hope everyone has an amazing soccer season!

We are 100% parent volunteer led organization!  If you or anyone that you know is interested in helping, please let me know!
